I’m an “Innovation Insider” with a passion for bringing pragmatic innovation techniques and ways-of-working to areas of business that want to start their own innovation teams, or who are struggling to get traction with innovation projects.

I’m passionate about open data and APIs, giving companies courage to unlock data for use by colleagues on behalf of customers, and even publish for everyone’s use if appropriate. You’ll be surprised at the value of data locked away in your databases and the correct control of its publication via APIs.

I teach programming / coding, and I’m a champion of accessibility that wants to close the ‘digital divide’. The Information Age is for everyone, not just for those with the cognitive, physical and financial abilities to access it.

I love inspiring people with the possibilities that innovation techniques can bring to their business and themselves. I speak at conferences and motivation events and mentor some startups so that they understand how to pitch at large companies in a way that gets the message across in the right way.

I have devised and run internal hackathon events that inspire and motivate colleagues, and gives them a chance to bring their ideas to life in front of their bosses.

My background is with Tesco, part of a team that was the first to bring grocery home shopping to UK customers in the mid-1990s. Tesco runs a world class digital retail channel as well as an industry-leading innovation group called Tesco Labs.

My current clients include GS1, where I work on their new and innovative programmes such as GS1 Digital Link, GS1 Smart Search, and GS1’s Activate service.

I also create both corporate and fun business videos on behalf of clients who have come to know about my ‘creative hour’ at the end of my working day. It’s great to give the logic side of my brain a rest and let the creative side take over!
